A website called ‘Sleepinginairports.net’ seems to have released its usual list of the worst airports in the world. The results are based on a survey comprising responses from a total of about 25,000 passengers. All these listed airports were rated in a total of four categories including: cleanliness, comfort, customer service and convenience.
- Port Harcourt International Airport in Nigeria
Making it to the top of the list is Nigeria’s Port Harcourt. It is believed to be the world’s most corrupt airport by a number of travellers. The lack of seats along with significant shortage of hospitable staff does not quite help the cause of the airport.
- Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport of Saudi Arabia
Ranking as the second worst airport the world over, Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport is believed to be crowded, chaotic as well as untidy. No wonder a new airport is expected to open in the next year.
- Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal
This one maintains its position at number 3. However, it is not surprising that the airport miserably failed to improve its standards. Passengers usually compare the airport to bus terminals. One traveller even went so far as to say that he drained himself just so that he did not have to use the restroom.
- Tashkent International Airport in Uzbekistan
This one is a major hub for Tashkent which has been slammed by passengers since quite along time. Lack of proper seating arrangement and impatient passengers do not really help its cause either. A traveller emphasised that one activity that prevails over all the others is waiting.
- Carcas Simon Bolivar International Airport in Venezuela
Sitting at the fifth place is this airport that is remarked as dull and uncomfortable. The website recommends travellers head straight to the private lounge if they wish to use WiFi.
- Port au Prince Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Haiti
Yet again, lack of chairs, extreme heat and extreme baggage porters make this experience hell. A traveller in the Caribbean mentioned that he remained stranded at the airport for about eight hours when it was 95 degrees.
- Kabul Hamid Karzai International Airport in Afghanistan
This one seems to have absolutely no facilities whatsoever. Considering the turmoil that the country suffers, one should not expect much reprieve.
- Ho Chi Minh Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Vietnam
The airport suffers from dirty bathrooms, poor WiFi as well as limited dining options. Allegations suggest that representatives at the airport even ask for bribes in order to expedite the process of immigration.
- Islamabad Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Pakistan
This one was at the bottom of the polls last year. It seems to have gotten worse within a year. A new terminal planned for next year could probably help the airport get better.
- Paris Beauvais Tille in France
This airport is about a couple of hours away from the city centre. Nevermind its claim of serving the capital of France.
