If you just moved to New York, you must be wondering what those USB drives sticking out the walls are meant for? Who had this ridiculous idea while cementing the blocks, you must be wondering. Well, it does serve a purpose. These drives allow offline file sharing in public places. That’s it; absolutely anyone is allowed access to download and drop files as they please.
The project by Aram Bartholl pitching this idea is known as ‘Dead Drops’. You can see how the name relates to the outlook of the entire concept. It is kind of a curious thing to notice a USB sticking out of a wall, isn’t it? You immediately begin to wonder what might be inside it. Now it remains to be seen how long this idea survives until somebody comes up with the brilliant plan to mess it up by uploading a virus.
