When travelling abroad, nobody likes a long, bothersome flight. This is where the selection of a good airline is really crucial. However, there is certainly a limit to the number of airports in an area. If you happen to be unfortunate to be based in one with one of the worst airports you are bound to face trouble. Here is a list of ten of the worst airports in the world.
1. Islamabad Benazir Bhutto international airport, Pakistan (ISB)
Benazir Bhutto international airport of Pakistan has only recently earned top spot in the list of the worst airports in the world. This award is mainly attributed to the harsh security checks within the premises as well as the uncleanliness in the area. That explains why it is also known as a central prison.
2. Jeddah King Abdulzaziz international airport, Saudi Arabia (JED)
The rather unamicable Arab staff at King Abdulaziz international airport in Jeddah is certainly not going to help you feel at home. Besides the rude behavior of the immigration officers, you might well be bothered by lengthy queues.
3. Kathmandu Tribhuvan international airport, Nepal (KTM)
Tribhuvan international airport faces almost exactly the same issues as King Abdulzaziz international airport. The seemingly neverending queues and the unfriendly staff only add to one’s worries.
4. Manila Ninoy Aquino international airport, Philippines (MNL)
NAIA only recently lost the top spot to Islamabad airport due to slight improvements in its services. The reduced congestion and terminal renovations are the main contributing factor. Many reviewers still report overcrowding, limited seating and smelly toilets as worrying issues.
5. Tashkent international airport, Uzbekistan (TAS)
Travelers often report that they are ‘disgusted’ at traveling in the airport. Overcrowding and limited seating are cited as main issues. Many have reported worsened health after having meals before flight as well.
6. Paris Beauvais-Tille international airport, France (BVA)
The building is said to closely resemble a bus station due to the congestion and uncleanliness. Passengers load and unload very much like they do with cargo. Also, it is closed at night so do not consider sleeping overnight prior to departure the next morning.
7. Frankfurt Hahn international airport, Germany (HHN)
The airport is particularly dark with rather uncomfortable seating facility. The mention of Frankfurt in the name is rather unfair given that it is more than 120 kilometers away from the center of the city.
8. Bergamo Orio al Serio international airport, Italy (BGY)
Interestingly enough, some travelers suggest that the best way to fix this is to destroy it. The small size of the airport is the main culprit here. Lack of seating in the airport means that travelers have to sleep on the floor and continually woken by cleaners.
9. Berlin Tegel international airport, Germany (TXL)
As usual, the seating is limited with this one. Lengthy queues with growing number of travelers does not help the cause at all.
10. New York City LaGuardia international airport, USA (LGA)
US Vice President, Joe Biden compared this airport to one pertaining to that of a third-world country. Travelers are extremely unhappy by the design and liken it to a rat maze. Moreover, the poor ventilation and smelly environment certainly worsens things.
