If one was to give Dubai another title, it would probably be the city of buildings. You must already be aware of the world’s tallest tower that is based there. Word is that there is another record breaking construction in plans for Dubai. Make no mistake; it will be the world’s largest shopping mall. What’s more, it will feature 100 apartments and hotels, climate-controlled streets and the largest indoor theme park you have ever seen. Oh, they have even got a name for it: ‘temperature-controlled pedestrian city’. It gives me the chills just thinking how costly this would all be!
This new project is an attempt to help Dubai become the top tourism destination throughout the year. The largest mall is expected to be a city within a city which will attract tourists from the world over despite the scorching heat, thanks to the climate control capabilities. Spread over eight million square feet, the mall will rest below one huge glass dome. That means, people will have access to fresh air in the winter season as the glass dome opens up. The target is to attract over 180 million tourists each year in order that Dubai cements its spot as a top tourist hub.
The mall will be situated near the current Mall of the Emirates which is among the world’s largest shopping malls and merely a short drive away from Burj Khalifa, the tallest tower in the world. Ruler of the Emirates, Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum acknowledges that this will help enhance Dubai’s image as a cultural hub. He admits that the focus on seasonal tourism needs to shift to year-long tourism. That explains the emphasis on climate-controlled environments. So then, which one of you plans on making this their day one touring spot? Let us know in the comments below.
