Alchemy is one of the greatest mythological feats of science, to make lead into gold, and it has long been stated as impossible. Now it seems like a team of scientists at Michigan State University has succeeded in this supposed magic by using bacteria instead of lead.
Cupriavidus metallidurans is the name of this amazing microbiological creature that uses gold chloride to make 99.9% pure 24-karat gold, like that in the picture below. Gold chloride is an extremely toxic chemical liquid found in nature and the bacteria is incredibly resistant to the chemical so it is able to output gold. The scientists monitor this functions in their miniature factory called The Great Work of the Metal Lover and study how this bug could potentially save the world economy.
