Folks at Google are certainly the most hardworking people in the whole world. Google has not only become the best search engine in the world, but it has also become the best app developer in the world too, with its tons of apps such as Gmail, Google Search, Google Music, Google Voice, Android Market, Google Earth, Google Maps and many more. Concerning the Google Maps, it looks like that Google has swore to cover every part of this wide world, every little part.
They are not only covering the world outside, but are now also covering maps of inside buildings like malls, airports and stores so you can never get lost.
Here is what Google said in a blog post on their official blog,
When you’re inside an airport, shopping mall or retail store, a common way to figure out where you are is to look for a freestanding map directory or ask an employee for help. Starting today, with the release of Google Maps 6.0 for Android, that directory is brought to the palm of your hands, helping you determine where you are, what floor you’re on, and where to go indoors.
You can check out the immense improvement of Google Maps before and after update in these pics of some places in Google maps.
The even greater thing about this update is that Google will be allowing retailers to upload their own floor plans to the service in the future, meaning that internal maps should begin to grow rapidly as soon as the retailers check out this update. While currently, Google Maps 6.0 has indoor maps of,
- Mall of America, IKEA, The Home Depot, select Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s, Daimaru, Takashimaya and Mitsukoshi locations and more. Watch an IKEA demo here.
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Narita International (NRT), among others.
- JR and Tokyu Corporation
The only downside to this update is that only the Android owners can get a chunk of this update now. But don’t be sad iOS users, as iOS will also get its own update soon.
