According to a survey carried out by investment firm Piper Jaffray at Apple stores on Friday, almost 73% of customers in line to buy the iPhone 4S said that they are upgrading to the new Apple smartphone from a previous version, while 27% are buying the iPhone for the first time.
Comparing these figures to the previous years, 77% people had a previous version of the iPhone back in 2010, 56% in 2009, and 38% in 2008.
Survey’s results also showed that majority(49%) of the customers opted for a 16GB iPhone 4S, 32% went for 32GB version and mere 19% opted for the 64GB model.
It is expected that Apple will sell around 2.5million iPhone 4S units over the weekend, which will be a new record. Prior to this, Apple announced that they have received more than 1 million iPhone 4S pre-orders in less than 24 hours of pre-orders going live.
