Volkswagen NILS: The Electric F1 Car Of The Future [PICS]

Volkswagen has designed a new single seater all electric concept car, named NILS.

The inspiration for the design comes from open-wheel Formula 1 race cars. It is not as fast though. But its 10 foot long Aluminum framed body accustomed with a 30hp motor produces a torque and acceleration so sharp and immaculate that one might actually feel like driving a race car. However, the small motor is only good for acceleration, putting a 0-60mph time of just 11 seconds but a rather tame top speed of just 80mph.

According to Volkswagen, the time required to charge this future production car is just 2 hours and the car will consume its 230V battery in just 40 miles. It is not a very good average considering its size but it might just be good enough for small errands or a trip to the office.

Volkswagen plans to show off NILS in the upcoming Frankfurt motor show. The car might not be available for sale but it shows the design that would be appropriate for future generation of cars.
