According to Reuters, officials from Facebook and Google have held talks with Skype to either buy or forming a joint venture with the Luxembourg-based company. These rumours came after Skype decided to delay its Initial Public Offering (IPO).
Discussions are in early stages, and it is not clear which option Skype is favouring at this moment of time. The deal could be valued between $3 billion to $4 billion.
Skype in response to these rumours said:
As a practical matter, we avoid commenting on rumor and speculation.
Google and Facebook have also declined to comment.
