Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Released

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Released

Guest Post by Kate Brown – Much excitement has surrounded the launch of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. For years mobile phone and computer gaming fans have expected Japanese firm Sony, mobile phone partners with the Swedish company Ericsson, to transfer their many gaming expertise over to the mobile phone world in a more comprehensive way.

It has been expected for a long time that a “Playstation phone” would be released, combining two of Sony’s biggest brands. And finally it’s here in the form of the Sony Xperia Play. A phone designed with gaming in mind, featuring the famous Playstation controller!

The phone was released on the first of this month to much fanfare but for a variety of reasons, not every retailer was able to get the phone into their shops on time. Both O2 and Vodaphone have revealed that they will not be able to sell the handset yet, blaming a variety of reasons including what O2 have called “software glitches”.

Sony Ericsson has also revealed that there have been “freight issues” that have affected the delivery of all the handsets. This is understandable considering the devastation that has hit Japan recently and has hit the UK stores slightly.

One should not worry about this though as there are plenty of other shops that have received their full shipment of Xperia Plays. Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4U, and Best Buy will already have the phone on their stores so take a look in there. It may still be better to wait for the other retailers to get their handsets though as it is always better to shop around. Anyway you will be able to pre-order the phone in most of the shops that do not yet have it.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play comes with 6 games built into the phone and a further 44 available, so it seems that Sony Ericsson are taking their new project very seriously. I for one cannot wait to get my hands on it!
