The Apple iPhone 5 – Its Finally Here

All roads and rumors have led to this, there has been the iPad event in March and the WWDC in June, but now it’s time for what everyone has been waiting for since last October. The iPhone 5 is finally here and we have the the latest info.

To start off with, this new iPhone has an incredible 4-inch Retina display with a 1136×640 resolution, which adds an extra row of apps. It is 18% thinner than the iPhone 4/4S at just 7.6 mm thin, making it the thinnest smartphone in the world! Weighing only 112 grams, 20% lighter than the previous generation, it will feels extremely comfortable to hold and carry around. This new screen size makes the iPhone 5 perfect for widescreen video because it now has a 16:9 aspect ratio, so the video fills the entire screen, and with 326 ppi and 44% more color saturation, videos and pictures will look better than ever before.

LTE support has been added to the latest iPhone and as Phil Schiller says, “It just screams.” The dynamic antennae used makes it perfect for nearly worldwide support:

  • US: AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon have LTE
  • Canada: Rogers, Telus, Bell, Virgin, Fido, Koodo
  • Asia: Softbank, KDDI, SKT, KT, smartptone, M1, singtel
  • Aussies: Telstra, Optus, Virgin Mobile
  • Europe: Deutschte Telecom, EE in the UK

The all new A6 chip makes using your iPhone so much smoother with double the CPU and graphics power than that of the iPhone 4S, with a 22% smaller chipset than before. Battery life is also nothing to worry about with 8 hours of 3G talk time and browsing, 8 hours of LTE browsing, 10 hours of Wifi, 10 hours of video playback, 40 hours of music playback, or if you don’t feel like using your iPhone (an unbelievable thought of course) it will last for 225 hours of standby.

The iPhone 5 back camera keep the same 8-megapixel sensor as the 4S but stays a bit thinner to fit the new body design. It boasts backside illumination, a hybrid IR filter, five-element lens, and f/2.4 aperture; the photo buffs out there know this an amazing amount of features for such a thin phone. It now uses sapphire crystal lens cover to reduce glare as well as a smart filter, which looks at the image before the ISP, does its noise reduction and figures out which areas need uniform color like the sky, and other areas like texture. Panorama has been added as well, just tap and sweep; it will automatically stitch everything together to make a seamless picture. The specs are topped off with 1080p video, improved video stability, improved face detection, and you can even take photos while shooting video. The front camera has been upgraded to a 720p Facetime camera, as well as allowing FaceTime over cellular networks.

A brand new Lightning cable come with this new iPhone, like the Thunderbolt port for Mac. It is key for fitting more into the iPhone and with so much data being transferred over wireless bands, the bigger dock connector is no longer needed. It is all digital with an 8-signal design, adaptive interface, improved durability, and reversible, which will be a savor to every person who fumbles to plug their phone in a night.

The iPhone 5 will be available for pre-order this Friday, the 14th, and will be released in the US, canada, UK, france, Germany, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore next Friday. One week later, it will be available in 21 more countries and by the end of the year, it will be in 100 countries and paired with 240 carrier partners. More on pre-ordering the iPhone 5 here.
