After tons of rumours over the past few months, Twitter has officially announced that it has bought TweetDeck. The acquisition price hasn’t been disclosed but believed to be around $40 million.
After acquiring one of the most widely used third-party Twitter applications, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said:
This acquisition is an important step forward for us. TweetDeck provides brands, publishers, marketers and others with a powerful platform to track all the real-time conversations they care about.
According to TweetDeck CEO Iain Dodsworth, Twitter will continue to support TweetDeck’s development independently.
Change may well be inevitable, but we remain the same team, staying in London, with the same focus and products, and now with the support and resources to allow us to grow and take on even bigger challenges.
