A group of scientists from the University of Nottingham Nanotechnology and Nanoscience Centre have managed to write what they believe is the world’s smallest periodic table on a single human hair. It certainly a great way not to get the periodic table out of your head.
Experts used a complex ion beam writer & an electron microscope to engrave the symbol of all 118 elements into the hair taken from the Green Chemistry expert Professor Martyn Poliakoff’s head.
Professor Poliakoff said: “Although the application was light-hearted I felt that it enabled us to show people how such nano-writing is done. Our microscopist, Dr Mike Fay, made the whole operation seem so simple and really demystified it in a most appealing way.”
